In Full Bloom: Talking Wedding Flowers with Chosen View Floristry

Flowers have the incredible power to transform a wedding day — they set the tone, enhance the atmosphere, and reflect a couple’s unique story.

To dive deeper into the world of wedding florals, I sat down with the talented Amy from Chosen View Floristry, whose beautiful arrangements bring so many love stories to life. From colour palettes and seasonal blooms to tips for couples planning their day, she shared her expert advice and creative insight into what makes wedding flowers truly unforgettable.

Here’s what she had to say... 🌸

What wedding floral trends are you loving right now?

To be completely honest, I try to steer my couples away from trends. It’s such a tricky thing to ask yourself — What’s my style? What do I really love? What feels like “us”? — especially when we’re constantly bombarded with reels of so-called “trendy” content.

I absolutely love it when a couple comes to me with their own vision, something that feels true to them rather than what’s popular at the moment. That said, trends will always exist, and we’ve seen quite a few over the last 18 months.

Trailing amaranthus has been one of my favourites, along with floral meadows that feel immersive and almost wrap around you as you walk down the aisle.

I’m drawn to anything that feels as though it’s just sprung up naturally — not overly considered, slightly wild, and beautifully imperfect.

How do you help couples choose flowers that suit their theme and budget?

I’m a huge people person, and that’s one of the main reasons I love what I do. Getting to know each couple — how they met, why they chose their venue, and what feels right for them — is a big part of what motivates me.

With that in mind, I always encourage couples to consider how their venue and other suppliers can be celebrated through their flowers. We want the day to feel beautifully cohesive — one element complementing the next — so I like to think about what will work well in the space, what can be repurposed, and the time of year we’re working with. All of these things help guide my flower choices.

Everyone’s budget is different, but I always suggest having one statement piece that can be reused throughout the day. It doesn’t have to be huge — something like a striking, foam-free bowl arrangement that begins on the registrar’s table and later moves to the bar works beautifully. It’s all about getting the most out of your florals.

Bouquets, too, can be repurposed — I love seeing them lined up in little jam jars along the top table. Simple, thoughtful, and cost-effective.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give couples when planning their wedding flowers?

Trust your florist! If you find someone whose style truly speaks to you, let them do what they do best. Last year, I worked with a few couples who simply shared a colour palette and a general vibe — and then left the rest to me. That kind of creative freedom allows us to source locally grown flowers and design with the seasons, which is something I’m really passionate about.

Of course, if there’s a particular flower you love, we can absolutely incorporate it. But I always encourage couples to stay open-minded — to embrace different varieties and make eco-conscious choices wherever possible.

Can you share a favourite wedding you’ve worked on and what made the florals special?

I think a lot of people look back at their early work and feel they’ve come such a long way — and I definitely feel that too. But with this question in mind, my very first wedding will always hold a special place in my heart. It was for a dear friend, Emily, at The Post Barn in Newbury. The venue itself is absolutely stunning, and the brief was bursting with colour and life — a beautiful fusion of English and Caribbean culture, complete with a Shakespeare play about the couple and the most incredible Caribbean feast.

Big Day Productions captured it all so beautifully, and those images became some of the very first in my professional portfolio — ones I still cherish today.  I also remember the joy I felt creating Emily’s bouquet, and the look on her face when she saw it for the first time — such a confirming, heartwarming moment. The tables were styled simply with bud vases, but the mix of varieties and colours brought so much depth and interest to the space. I particularly loved the addition of clematis — its delicate, trailing nature added a sense of movement and softness, almost as if it was dancing through the arrangements.

What is your favourite season and your go-to blooms?

Spring! It’s always spring for me. I mean — ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus — they make me swoon every time! I’m also a sucker for daffodils, tulips, and all the incredible blossom we get. There’s something so soft, delicate, colourful, and hopeful about this time of year.

From a florist’s perspective, spring feels like a fresh start — nature waking up again, bursting with energy and possibility. It’s when so many beautiful British blooms come into season, and I love being able to source locally grown flowers straight from nearby growers. The colours are vibrant, the textures are full of life, and there’s such a wonderful sense of connection to the land and the seasons. It’s a reminder of why I fell in love with flowers in the first place.

What’s something most couples don’t realise about wedding flowers until they start planning?

Cost is often one of the first questions couples ask, and flowers seem to be one area people don’t always know much about. It’s important to understand that a florist’s work goes far beyond the blooms themselves — it includes consultations, design, planning, ordering, conditioning, arranging, transporting, and taking everything down afterwards. It’s all the time, care, and expertise that goes into creating the magic.

Flowers are becoming more expensive due to rising growing, import, and supply-chain costs, including the impact of Brexit, unpredictable weather, and the need for farmers to make a sustainable profit. Choosing locally grown, seasonal, and eco-conscious blooms can help support growers and reduce environmental impact, but often comes at a premium. I make it a priority to educate my couples about sustainable practices, from sourcing locally grown blooms to avoiding floral foam — a toxic material that many people don’t even consider. For me, it’s about creating beautiful arrangements that are thoughtful, responsible, and meaningful.

I truly believe everyone should have flowers they love, which is why I work with a wide range of budgets, helping couples get the most beauty and impact from every arrangement!
